This juried competition asks artists to choose a sitting Justice on the United States Supreme Court to share their vision of portraiture through different mediums, including 3D and data art. Original artwork only, no AI art will be accepted.

Portraiture As Life Review: Sitting Supreme Court Justices, Protectors of American Law
Artists are asked to create portraits that express their vision of the subject’s likeness through the arc of the individual’s life, character, choices and contributions to society. Works may incorporate:
• Judicial choices and milestones
• Symbolic representations of legacy
• Social and humanitarian impact
• Cultural integrity
• Historical timelines
• Archival references
• Judicial choices and milestones
• Data visualization
The goal is to explore portraiture as both image and evidence—an artistic life review.

Judging criteria:
Entries will be evaluated on:
• Originality & creative vision
• Interpretation of theme / curatorial relevance
• Artistic expression and technical skill
• Composition & visual impact
• Depth of life-review interpretation
• Social, historical and/or civic insight
• Effective integration of portraiture with data and/or storytelling
• Cultural impact
Important rules:
• Original work only, no AI-generated work
• Portrait subjects must be one of the sitting justices of the United States Supreme Court
• Artists are responsible for ethical sourcing and representation
• Works must be submitted digitally for online exhibition
• Collaborative entries allowed with stated primary artist upon online submission
• Digital entries must be saved in JPG format with a resolution of (at least) 300 dpi
• The image size should be 1200-1500 pixels on the longest dimension with a maximum file size of 5 MB
Prize structure:
A guaranteed prize pool* will be awarded as follows:
Guaranteed awards:
• First place: $1,000
• Second place: $750
• Third place: $500
*Expanded prize awards through donations:
Private citizens, patrons and businesses may support the competition to increase the total prize fund.
All donations received above the guaranteed base prize pool will be distributed as follows:
• 70% directly to winning artists proportionately to win ranking
• 30% to competition organizers to support administration, digital exhibition and operations
This structure is designed to expand artist compensation while sustaining grassroots cultural collaboration.
